Ultimate Leggings?

Discovery Fabrics in Canada recently sent me some of their Sage Caress Athletic Fabric and Black Yoga Stretch Fabric to test out with the M&B Loxton Leggings. Discovery are incredibly well stocked with activewear, and specialist outdoorsy fabric, but their leggings fabric was what was most interesting to me.

These are made from their Black Yoga Stretch Fabric, which they describe as a durable supplex nylon knit that’s similar to Lululemon Luon. It has a matte finish and feels quite cottony but is much more durable than cotton, and retains its shape better.

If you’re an M&B Patreon, there’s a video of the fabrics here. But, spoiler alert- I’m pretty certain that the Yoga Stretch Fabric will be my go-to from now on!

While the sage fabric I used for these ones is really lovely and buttery soft, this yoga stretch is thick, hefty, and oh-so-opaque. I appreciate that it’s thick enough that there’s no visible undies line showing through, and I feel like if I had to squat or bend down (maybe I dropped a gold bar, or had to pet a really short dog), then these would remain just as opaque.

Fortunately, my dog is a very ergonomic height for petting – no bending down required – but it’s nice to know I’m covered.

The details: I made a straight Size F with no modifications, other than shortening the shorts to have them sit above my knees. I also used ribbed-non-roll elastic for the waistband rather than the knitted waistband the pattern calls for because I didn’t want the really high-quality fabric to outlast some shitty quality elastic.
