Lace Campsie Top

The Campsie Top is the latest pattern from Muna and Broad.

I used a black lace from The Fabric Store which has been in my stash for aaagggeesss- I think it had even been listed on my fabric destash account at one point!

Lace Campsie Top Front

Based on my measurements, I used the 4+ bust option, grading from a Size E out to Size H through the hip. This version has the sleeves as-drafted, and they’re slightly rolled up in these photos. For my green Campsie, I shortened the sleeves 3″

Ultimately, I’d like to wear this over a black strappy camisole, so, I guess there’s a silky black Nullarbor Cami in my sewing future- the photographs showed me that the lace was a lot more sheer than I had realised.

Lace Campsie Top Back

I used a bias binding to finish the neckline instead of the facings that the pattern has, because I decided I didn’t want to think too hard about how to make the facing look nice (Organza? Something solid black?).

I bound the neck straight round, smooshing the centre-back seams together so they met because I really wanted to skip the rolleau loop and tiny button (for a speedier sew).

For the bias neckline, I pressed the bias tape into a loopy snake before attaching- the same method for getting a clean finish on the Lobethal Shirt (see it here on YouTube).

Lace Campsie Top Side

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy sewing the lace was. I worried that the lack of substance might lead to sewing tension issues, but it was actually much easier to sew than the slinky things I’ve been trying to sew recently!

I’ve been on a bit of a lace kick recently (as Pinterest can attest), and I have enough fabric leftover that I could even make something like a Campsie with lace sleeves, a lace yoke, and a plain black body. Maybe up next?
